Throw Back – Our First Foster Mom and Doxie

Throw Back – One of our first foster mom’s experience with her very first foster dog…..

DenverMy First Experience as a Foster Mom.
When Jamie called me and said she had a dog for me to foster I was overjoyed. On the way over I got nervous about how the dog would like me and would I like the dog, would I be able to give he/she have a good experience before going to his/her furever home. When I got there here was a little black dog with horrible looking skin and missing hair in places. She was very sad looking but had these beautiful eyes that reached my soul. Her name was Denver. Jamie said she had
Denver1slept in the bathroom with no problems. I made a got her a little bed with some water and food and a nightlight. She wanted nothing to do with her new little room. She barked non-stop for 15 minutes. I went and got and put her under the covers and to go to sleep. She snuggled right next to me not moving an inch till morning. I had a few days off to get to know Denver, giving her a bath for her skin and tried showing her what living was, giving her good food and some toys. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with them. She got along good with my other dogs and cats. As time went on her hair grew back and she Denver2became this beautiful little black dog. I thought I was doing a great job at being a good foster mom, getting her healthy enough for her new home. Then came the call from Jamie letting me know we needed to get some pictures of Denver so she could get adopted by her furever family. My heart was crushed and I couldn’t imagine her not in my life.
I couldn’t imagine not waking up to her kisses in the morning and seeing her happy face and nonstop wagging tail and how happy she was when I came home. I called Jamie in tears telling her I had to
Denver3adopt Denver and couldn’t give her up. She had picked me from day one; it took me a little longer. Denver was my first foster failure and
this little girl has my heart. My heart smiles everyday when I see her.
